Who

What

What

Greetings, friend!

I'm Ali. I like the beginning and middle parts of creating something, broccoli, my dog, picking out color palettes, and the woods. I dislike not feeling like a project is truly finished, mushrooms, rodents, how frequently my taste in colors changes, and the open ocean.

What

What

What

The current focus of Obligartory is multifiber and multimedia design - macramé, weaving, cards, and graphic design. We are all lifelong learners and are constantly evolving, and this site will surely evolve as we learn and grow as a community.

When

What

Where

Crafting and DIY projects have always been an empowering outlet for me. The ability to create, collaborate, and learn from others' experience has grown more important in recent years. Obligartory began in 2023. I am dedicated to creating space for joy and hope to share that on at least a weekly basis.

Where

Where

Where

I am based out of the Portland, Maine area! The art scene, ocean, hiking, and my family here are invaluable sources of inspiration and support.

Why

Where

Why

My goal is to cultivate a community of people with passion and interest for expression with room for forgiveness and no expectations for perfection. Portland, Maine has a growing artistic culture. My long-term goal is to open a makerspace here for adults to utilize space and materials to collaborate, as well as an opportunity for local artists to teach classes. I hope that this space could offer a safe location for after-school and summer programs for children to explore their creativity. I have been lucky enough to have a mom who is an artist and showed me from a young age how influential fostering creativity can be.
